Conference came and went, and no one was happier about it than Cedric Gervais.
CJ:2006 was a busy year for you, you settled in nicely to Space, and then signed to Bullitt as your DJ agency, how did that come about?
CG:Signing with Bullitt was a great thing for me. It is one of the top agencies in the world, and also most of the people on the roster are dear friends of mine. They have been treating me like family! It feel great to work with people like that.
CJ:Of course with that, you toured a lot, what were your favorite spots? I'm guessing Colombia but I'm sure there's some more!
CG:Yes, Colombia is my favorite! Actually I’m there on a tour at the moment, but believe it or not Los Angeles is my second favorite. I’ve been playing there a bunch of times, and the crowd is amazing. They have a great promoter there, Dave Dean with Giant, he really knows how to throw a party.
CJ:Being on Bullitt, you've done some work with Sharam, including being in the video for Party All The Time (PATT), how did that all happen?
CG:Well, when Party All The Time came out, me and my friends Antoine and Adam from Second Sun decided to make a funny YouTube video of the song, and then we sent it to Sharam, and a bunch of other people, they loved it! After that we remixed the track for him, and then got invited out to LA to be in the real PATT video.
CJ:What's with the bagel/donut?
CG:Hah! When I walked into the video shoot, Sharam asked me to go shoot the first scene right away, which was the one with the two girls getting it on. I was supposed to be the assistant of Sharam, who was acting as the director of a porn movie, and when the girls were getting it on, I was supposed to act surprise and eat the donut, The way I did it, we laughed so much that it became the inside joke of the video, so we put more scenes in with the donut!
CJ: More good things came of that collaboration too, I see you've got a compilation on Yoshitoshi coming out this Winter Music Conference, care to give us some details?
CG:I just finished a compilation called Yoshitoshi Miami that will be released for WMC. It a mix of new tracks from Yoshitoshi and old classics that I remixed myself like Alcatraz “give me luv“ , Holmes Ives featuring Avalon Frost “ 8 Letters”. And I got two of my friends Maurizio Ruggierro and DJ Pedro to remix 2 other classics from Yoshi. I'm really happy with this project, and can't wait for the release this weekend.
CJ:I'll definitely pick it up. Speaking of Conference, what parties did you play this year??
CG:I played on Tuesday with Sharam at Suite. Then Wednesday at Ink for Wet Grooves, Thursday, I was at the Bullitt party at Set. Now, on Friday, this is the big one, I was live on Radio 1 with Pete Tong at the Surfcomber Hotel. Then Saturday, Yoshitoshi at Space, and then Sunday I invited Seamus Haji, Second Sun, Granite and Phunk, and many more DJs to join me at Mynt for my closing party. I was exhausted after!
CJ:Wow, almost as busy as me. I made it through in one piece, I was kinda proud of myself. From Conferences past, what were your favorite memories?
CG:My favorite memories was last year at the Yoshi party when Sharam, Ali, Nic and I started tag teaming on the patio until 4 pm, and then Nic and Sharam started playing drum 'n bass to get people to go home!
CJ:I see you're playing an XM Radio party, are we gonna hear more of you on XM/Sirius?
CG:Yes I did XM party at the Catalina Hotel on Friday. And on Wednesday I was at Cafeteria for Sirius. I’m talking with XM at the moment to start a weekly show on their BPM channel.
CJ:Well, with the XM/Sirius merger coming up, you'll be set. But along those lines, some people are complaining that Conference is getting too big and too commercial, what do you think?
CG:Well, I think it’s getting better and better. More people are coming, more parties are taking place. Let's put it this way, it is four months of Ibiza in one week!
CJ:Outside of your own events, which events did you check out this year?
CG:I checked out a lot of other stuff, since it is good to hear different stuff, ya know? But I went to Mynt on Wednesday for Ali's Global Underground release party, and also I also checked out Danny Tenaglia at Twilo on one of his days there. There was just so much to do!
CJ:Any artists and tracks we should look out for?
CG: You all definitely need to check out Second Sun's new album. I’ve been in the studio with them, and I've heard where are they going with this album. Let me tell you they are going to the next level with this. Also, I've got a bunch of new stuff coming out on my label, Sleaze Industries, that everyone should look out for.
CJ: Well, you know where to send the promos. Thanks again for taking the time out for us, don't forget to bring some extra 'recruits' from the Promised Land for us at CJ.
