Behrouz Interview
September 23, 2007 4:07 PM
by Dan Vidal [email]

For the bulk of this decade, Behrouz's star has been on the rise. Working closely with such artists as Deep Dish, Dino Lenny, and Yousef, and releasing compilations such as "In House We Trust 2", and Yoshitoshi Ibiza, he has become a much-sought after commodity on the scene. Next week, on July 3rd he graces the decks at Suite for a much-anticipated appearance. We took a moment to catch up with Behrouz a few days ago.

CJ:Last year, you relocated to Miami, what made you make that decision?

Primarily the decision was based on shortening my travel time between Europe and South America. Last year alone I flew over 300,000 miles, which is crazy. I used to live in San Francisco and that’s an extra five or six hours I was traveling to get back home. I also felt that Miami would be a good hub for me. It was either NY or Miami and I chose Miami because of the weather.

CJ:Enjoying it so far?

Of course! What is there not to enjoy? Lovely weather, beautiful people, good food. I’m learning to enjoy the good weather.

CJ:What are your favorite venues in town?

So far I’ve had the pleasure of playing at some of the best clubs here in Miami: Twilo, Suite, Set, Mansion, Mokai, Privé, Space and some other smaller venues, but my favorite venue by far was Twilo. I had the pleasure to play there during this past Winter Music Conference and I feel as though I could have played in that room for another 20 hours. But unfortunately it’s closed and we lost a great room here in Miami.

CJ:Now that you're in Miami, how is that reflecting in your sound?

I haven’t really noticed a change or felt there has been a change. I usually stick to my own sound which can vary all the way from deep house to techno. I’ve got my own studio in Miami now and play room in my house and it’s enabled me to create my own little world to have fun in and continue to give love back to my fans in the form of new tracks and sets.

CJ:What can we expect to hear from you production-wise in the upcoming Months?

I just finished 6 new tracks and each one has a different sound.
"Free your Mind" with DJ Simi, "Touch", "Dream", "Beat Box", "Coming Home" and "Sousse". I’m also doing 2 new remixes this summer. Also working on some great productions this summer in Spain and Ibiza.

CJ:Here in town, you've played a lot at Mokaï and Set, venues not known to be oriented towards the music-loving crowd, how have those events gone over?

They all have been great in there own way. It was challenging because
I don’t play commercial music so when the people in the club or the promoters were asking me to play commercial music, it just was not my cup of tea. I play beautiful music and not mash-up music. I hope there is a club like Cielo that can open up here in Miami with a killer sound system and where we can all play from the heart, which is what I always try to do.

CJ:Next week, you're playing at Suite, any special surprises you have in store for the audience?

I always have something up my sleeve and they are called my secret bombs up. I enjoy playing tracks that not many people know about. This is what keeps me searching constantly for those new and underground tracks that make you say “Wow what was that track that he just played”.

CJ:What other artists are you listening to these days?

There are so many great artists out there right now. Ones that come to mind are Guy Gerber, Shlomi Aber, Roman S. Martin H, and DJ Yellow.

CJ:Outside of the dance music world, what other musicians and artists would you like to work with sometime?

I would love to produce an album for a rock band like Journey or a group like Yellow or an artist like Alicia Keys. Just to show you the variety of music I am into.

CJ:When you're not behind the mixer or in the studio, how do you relax?

I ride my bicycle with my dog at the beach. If you see me with a little yorkie in my back basket, feel free to say hello.

CJ: Thanks for the opportunity to chat. We'll see you next week at Suite

Behrouz will be at Suite on September 29th. To find out more info about the party, click here.
