Last night the highly anticipated event that everyone had been waiting for finally took place. Joaquin Phoenix, the Academy Award nominee turned rapper, took the stage at Miami’s LIV nightclub to perform three songs off of the so-called ‘rap’ album that he’s currently working on. While at first many believed this to be true, now everyone seems to be catching on to the publicity stunt, seeing as his bro-in-law, Casey Affleck, is filming a documentary on Phoenix and his touring. People, if it smells like bullshit, looks like a hobo, and is as talentless at executing playschool rhymes as Joaquin Phoenix, than you can bet your ass that it’s probably a publicity stunt.
Scheduled to headline the evening, and being supported by DJs Craze and Klever, Phoenix took the stage to an anxious and very curious crowd of hipsters and South Beach button-downers, what was set to be a performance that would last a maximum of 15 minutes, ended up being less than one as Phoenix quickly jumped into the crowd to take down a heckler. The ‘brawl,’ which wouldn’t surprise me if it were staged as well, was broken up and that was it for Phoenix.
If he’s doing this for the sake of his brother-in-law’s film, then you know what, hell of a favor. But the guy’s not that bad of an actor, and it’s a shame that he has to go through ridicule just to have his name appear on some headlines again, seeing as his latest flick with Gwyneth Paltrow is as good as a kick in the nuts.
