The BankUnited Center’s been bringing in more and more acts as of late, and this week they brought in HBO’s comedic duo, Flight of the Conchords, in for a special performance. Although, these guys are known for their comedy, don’t let it fool you, they are Grammy Award-winning artists. On Tuesday night they happened to transform the BankUnited Center at the University of Miami, which has played hosts to bands like Death Cab for Cutie, John Mayer and Fall Out Boy, into a coffee house vibe, with laughs coming in from all directions.

The stage was dimly lit and first up to bat was Kristen Schaal, better known as Mel on the HBO show, who delivered a short stand-up routine that was taken in well, but nothing special for the folks who really came to see Jemaine and Bret. Once she wrapped things up, the duo took the stage and began to deliver favorite songs from the show, including “Mutha’uckas,” “Robots,” and “The Most Beautiful Girl (In the Room),” which each received laughs and praise throughout each.

In between songs the two would chat and make some pretty hilarious improvised comments, much like the show, however, their fully acoustic set is what really took the cake. The crowd was pretty let down when Bret revealed that they didn’t bring Murray along, whose name brought out shrieks from fans and laughter after Bret made a remark that their cheers for Murray were, “about the best response we’ve had from you guys tonight.”

The women in the audience were definitely big fans of Bret and Jemaine, some holding up signs referring to their ‘sugar lumps,’ while others just couldn’t seem to stay in their seats, at times distracting the two (If you’re that chick in the second row and you’re reading this, you suck!). Regardless, the show was successful and seemed to fill up the small arena, which will play host to the Kings of Leon in early May. The sound was pure and vibe felt intimate as Flight of the Conchords delivered what could be one of the most unique and hilarious performances around.
