The Real House Party: GirlTalk @ Studio A
February 7, 2008 2:58 PM
by Marcos Colón [email]

The kid from Pittsburgh, PA takes Studio A by storm as a demographic that can only be described as EVERYONE, filled the venue from wall to wall.

As GirlTalk took the stage the herd of fans that screamed and cheered his name awaited him, as well as the spare 100 fans that surrounded his laptops on stage. Most DJ's only enjoy a few friends by their side as they do their thing, but GirlTalk seems to find a true connection with his supporters by having them all onstage with him, a characteristic that labels his sets as the best dance party. A crowd full of hipsters, hip-hop enthusiasts and even shiny shirt guys filled Studio A, selling out the venue.

Kicking up the night was Oh Fortuna, an indie-pop act whom Girl Talk met at a frat party after a gig in Gainesville and asked them to open up in Miami.

Following them was Grand Buffet, a hip-hop duo also hailing from PA. This wasn't your everyday hip-hop twosome, I'm not talking Black Star or even Cool Kids. These guys looked more like Slipknot fans than anything else and had tracks titled "Creamcheese Money." Appearances aside, the duo definitely rocked the crowd and hyped them up for GirlTalk's arrival. Their playful rhymes and addictive rhythms went well with the packed venue.

GirlTalk Works the Crowd

As Grand Buffet exited, the smog machine filled the room and security took the stage, surprisingly to hype the crowd up even more and help fans on stage. Shortly afterward GirlTalk took the stage and quickly hopped on the DJ table to introduce himself to a crowd that was already too familiar and ready to have his bass driven mash-ups elevate them.

When the music was underway the stage quickly mimicked the dance floor, at one point looking like a topless ocean of sex, just some guys in GT's crew, as sweat was flying and bodies shimmered. The crowd on the dance floor even had the pleasure of having a nearly naked man in a Speedo crowd dive.

The confetti was flying and the champagne was sprayed into the crowd as GirlTalk kept providing the mash-ups that included rock, hip-hop and even some Hall and Oates.

This was definitely the place to be on Saturday night as a venue typically known for it's live acts and DJ sets was turned into the house party of the year.
